Naturehood
Nature is on your doorstep. Come find it.
About the Programme
Naturehood x Westminster is a free programme for young people aged 10–15 living in and around Westminster. Running throughout 2026, it brings young people out of the classroom and into their local green spaces exploring, making, and connecting with the natural world on their doorstep.
Westminster is one of the most urban, densely populated boroughs in the UK. For many young people growing up here, regular access to nature isn't a given, green space is limited, time outside is squeezed, and the natural world can feel distant from everyday life. Naturehood exists because we believe that connection to the natural environment isn't a luxury. It's essential for young people's health, wellbeing, and sense of belonging in the places they live.
Each session combines hands-on activity with creative practice. Young people walk the canal, monitor local wildlife and plant species, grow things, and make art that responds to the environment around them. Every workshop produces something real, from puppet making to clay vases to campaign flags, that you design yourself and take home. No experience needed. Just curiosity.
Dates will be confirmed soon. Register your interest at the bottom of this page.
What we get up to
Get outside - Sessions take place in and around Church Street, in green spaces, along the canal, and in the open air. Fresh air and nature, right on your doorstep.
Explore your local environment - Learn to see the natural world hiding in one of London's most urban neighbourhoods. Walk the Grand Union Canal, monitor local species, and get your hands in the soil.
Make something real - Every workshop produces something you design yourself and take home, puppet making, clay vases, campaign flags, and more. Creativity is at the heart of everything we do.
Make your voice heard - Naturehood isn't just about nature, it's about young people having something to say about it. Every session connects creativity to the environmental and social issues that matter to the people who live here.
Upcoming Workshops
Our workshops run throughout the year, across school holidays, weekends, and after school, so there's always an opportunity to get involved whatever your schedule. Sessions take place in and around Church Street, with occasional visits to green spaces across Westminster.
All sessions are free and open to young people and families . You don't need any experience or special kit, just show up ready to get outside and make something.

Church Street Gallery
Cayr has been working in and around Church Street since 2024, getting to know the neighbourhood, the people who live here, and what it means to grow up and grow old in one of London's most vibrant and rapidly changing places.
Our projects have explored green space, community memory, the built environment, and the relationship between people and place. Everything we make is created with and by local residents, not about them.
The Church Street Gallery is an ongoing archive of that work, films, photography, and exhibitions rooted in this corner of the city.
Support our work
Projects like Naturehood are only possible because of donations. As a small charity, every contribution helps us deliver creative health programmes to people who need them most.
